Dear all,

Since the creation of sf-ic.org four days days ago, we have gained around 100 supporters from all ranks ( http://sf-ic.org/supporters.rhtml ). Given the somewhat arcane nature of the topic, I hope you will agree that this is not bad going. However, we have only contacted a tiny minority of the College (mostly EPH and DoC) and urge you to pass the message on to anyone outside these departments you think might be interested, particularly members of staff.

Moving forward, we will try to arrange meetings with ICT and College managers to try to persuade them to implement a fair and binding policy that satisfies the Charter. Apart from this top-down pressure we wish exerted, everyone can play a role in exerting bottom-up pressure. For example:

- If a lecturer provides her slides in the secret Powerpoint file format, urge her to provide them also in PDF.
- If a member of College sends you a Word document, reply politely that .doc is a secret proprietary file format that you cannot read reliably unless you use the expensive Office and Windows software.
- If you use GNU/Linux or Mac OS X and directory or printer services do not work properly on your platform, contact the systems administrator and urge her to use open protocols that do not discriminate against you.
- <enter your own ideas here>

We will keep you informed on any progress. Thanks!
